Mississippi Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law makes it mandatory for all states develop a procedure for alerting local residents when a sexual offender is located in their community.
Megan was just seven years old when a prior sex offender that lived accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and killed her. It was agreed that if her family or other residents in the communtiy had been aware that a repeated sexual predator was residing in their community, this assult could've been avoided. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any objections.
Since the law has been put into effect, Mississippi has made it a point to protect its residents the most up to date information relating to previous sex offenders and their current residency. The legislation has confirmed that while sex crimes are still a problem in the United States, acts committed by prior offenders are on a decline.
The information accesible by the institution of Megan's Law has continued to be a critical advantage in keeping one's family safe from the threat of sexual misconduct.
