Mississippi Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that every state put a method in place for informing the public when a sexual offender is relocated into their community.
Megan was only seven years old when a previously convicted sexual offender that resided accross the street from her family, abducted, violently rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had been aware that a repeated sexual predator was living in their neighborhood, this heinous act could've been prevented. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any objections.
Since the law has been enacted, Mississippi has strived to protect its offering the most up to date information relating to convicted sexual offenders and their place of residence. The legislation has confirmed that though sex crimes are still a occuring in the United States, acts committed by past offenders are on a downturn.
