Mississippi Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megans Law makes it mandatory for all states have a system in place for informing the general public when a sexual offender is moves into their community.
Megan was only seven years old when a repeat sexual predator that resided accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and murdered her. It was decided that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had known that a repeated sexual offender was housed amongst them, this heinous act would have been thwarted. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any opposition.
Since the law was enacted, Mississippi has strived to protect its citizens the most recent information relevant to past sex offenders and their current residency. The law has confirmed that though sexual assaults are still a danger in the United States, acts committed by prior offenders are on a decline.
