Mississippi Megan's Law

Being named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megans Law makes it mandatory for all states have a system in place for notifying local residents when a sexual offender is located in their community.
Megan was only seven years old when a prior sex offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, violently rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had known that a convicted sexual offender was residing in their community, this heinous act could've been prevented. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any opposition.
Since the law has been put into effect, Mississippi has made it a point to protect its residents the most up to date information relevant to convicted sex offenders and their whereabouts. The law has confirmed that while sex crimes are still a danger in this country, crimes committed by past offenders are on a regression.
