Mississippi Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megans Law makes it mandatory for each state put a method in place for informing the general public when a sexual offender is relocated into their community.
Megan was merely seven years old when a previously convicted sexual offender that was living accross the street from her family, abducted, violently rapped, and killed her. It was decided that if her family or other residents in the communtiy had known that a convicted sexual predator was living amongst them, this heinous act could've been prevented. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any protests.
Since the law was passed, Mississippi has made it a point to protect its citizens the most recent information relating to past sexual offenders and their whereabouts. The legislation has confirmed that while sexual offenses are still a problem in the United States, offenses committed by prior offenders are on a regression.
