Mississippi Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megans Law requires that all states have a system in place for alerting the general public when a sexual offender is moves into their community.
Megan was just seven years old when a repeat sexual offender that resided accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had known that a previous sexual predator was living in their neighborhood, this assult could've been prevented. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress legislated the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any resistance.
Ever since the law was put into effect, Mississippi has made it a point to protect its citizens the most current information regarding previous sex offenders and their whereabouts. The bill has proven that though sexual assaults are still a danger in this country, offenses committed by previous offenders are on a regression.
The information obtainable through the enactment of Megan's Law has proven to be a signifcant benefit in keeping one's family safe from the threat of sexual misconduct.
